DENIED

I broke down today and went to the library. Because I'm bored and want to read.

But apparently when it comes to borrowing something I'm clearly going to give back, my sly dodging of the radar and leaving a mark in the system becomes a problem.

So I was denied.

Wait, really? Denied? A library card? Yes. Really. Simply because I don't have:

A) A Utah Driver's License

-OR-

B) Gov't ID (got that) *AND* one of the following:
1) Lease Agreement
2) Utility or Cell Phone Bill
3) Mortgage Papers
4) Property Tax Notice
5) Pay Check Stub
6) Gov't-Issued Correspondence
7) Enrollment Form for Medical Services or a Hospital/Doctor's Bill

Every other time I've applied for a library card all I needed was a picture of my face and an envelope saying, hey, I live here. What's up with all this extra security? This is a LIBRARY. I'm not applying for a friggin' LOAN or access security-encrypted files.

I just want to read books. FML

I don't know about Utah; but, here you have to prove you actually live within the city limits - which is what the other documentation provides. People that live outside of the city can still get a library card - for a small fee of $25. Perhaps your library has a non-resident fee too.

I Stand All Amazed

This may not make sense. It's jumbled. But sometimes you just need to write. Or blog. And so you do. I love when stories just flow out of me. When I don't have to wrack my brain and consider this and that, and wonder about the other, and then go back and make sure that everything is plausible, or realistic, or coming across the way that I want. Ever since 2009 when I claimed to not read articles, and then 2010 when I acknowledged that I started reading , I've been thinking about articles. Because I read A TON of them. So for this year's best of, I wanted it to be harder to choose (and it will be). I started tracking the articles I perused. I got up this morning and knew that today, for the first time in about a month, I was going to work. I was going to write. And that it wasn't an April Fool's joke. And the absolute, most infuriating thing about that is that I cannot tell you why or how today is different from yesterday. It's actually mind-boggling. If I had an inkling, then I would know for next time. I would get there faster, I would break down less, I would not waste as much energy and effort getting absolutely nothing accomplished.
